Before we gathered for the first worship time on August 1, 2004, we assembled at Calvary Lutheran Church, near where several of our families lived. |
We had in common …
▪ A relationship with Jesus Christ
▪ A desire to make Him known in the St. Matthews and Highlands areas of Louisville |
We decided …
▪ The best way to
know what we ought to ask of God in this new endeavor was to
learn from Jesus Himself what we ought to ask. |
We found in the prayer He taught His disciples to pray the answer to the question of what we ought to ask of God and the answer to some other important questions. In Matthew 6, we read that Jesus said,
“Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom com, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, Forgive us our debts,
as we also
have forgiven our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil."
|
Three big questions were
answered:
1. What would we be?
2. What would be important to us?
3. What would we do? |
What would we be?
▪
We would be what we are, which we learned from the opening of the prayer. "Our Father who art in heaven" teaches that we are Gods
children, a family, on a journey home. |
What would be important to us?
That which is important to God, which is
▪ His name being hallowed
▪ His kingdom coming
▪ His will being done
▪ On earth (where we are sojourning)
▪ As it already is in heaven (where we are going). |
What will we do to bring this
about? We will seek to receive from God for ourselves and others all
that we need to meet our
▪ Physical (give us our daily bread),
▪ Relational (forgive us as we forgive),
▪ Spiritual (lead us), and
▪ Moral (deliver us) needs. |
We continue to meet for
worship on Sunday mornings at 9 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church,
and to pray that God will enable us to live like His children, a
family, on a journey home. |
We pray that
▪ In our worship, God’s name will be made famous
▪ In our community and world, His kingdom will come
▪ In our lives, homes and churches, His will be done
▪ All the time remembering how it is in heaven, and longing for it
to be that way here on earth. |
And we pray
▪ As our daily physical needs are met, that we will seek to share
and to intercede for the needs of others
▪ As we experience God’s forgiveness, we will be a forgiving
people.
▪ As we face the trials and tribulations of life, we will remain
humble, cautious, meek and faithful, and will seek to come along
side others in their struggles with comfort
▪ As we cope with the evil and the Evil One, we will be delivered
from his influence and will be ambassadors for Christ pleading
others to be reconciled to God. |
Pray for us, and let us pray
for you.
Email us a prayer request or a comment. |
Our Shorter Catechism says the
chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. We
seek to glorify Him by hallowing His name, extending His
kingdom, and doing His will.
We seek to enjoy Him forever by receiving our every need from
Him, Because the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and
ever is Jesus Christ our Lord’s!
